We are gathered today on the occupied territory of the Sana and Tonkawa People who have stewarded this land for generations.

Treehouse Dinner Church

Welcome to Dinner Church at Treehouse! We are thrilled you are here. Tonight’s worship mirrors a form of worship known by the earliest Christians. If it is new to you, not to worry! We will guide you through everything. Take a moment in prayer to settle yourself and recognize the presence of God already at your table. Then relax and enjoy this night!

Welcome and Explanation of night

The Lord be with you!
And also with you.

Let us pray…

Opening Song – Jesu, Jesu, Fill Us with Your Love

Sharing of the Bread

On the night before Jesus was to die, he gathered together with his friends for dinner. And on that night, he took the bread, broke it, and gave it to them saying, “Take and eat, this is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”

And so tonight, we do the same. We take bread, broken for us, and share it with one another with those sacred words, “The body of Christ given for you.”

Communion Song – Come Let us Eat

Post-Bread Blessing

Be strengthened this night by the presence of Christ made known to you in the bread and in one another. Amen.

Invitation to Meal

Reading – Mark 10:35-45

35 James and John, Zebedee’s sons, came to Jesus and said, “Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask.” 36 “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked. 37 They said, “Allow one of us to sit on your right and the other on your left when you enter your glory.” 38 Jesus replied, “You don’t know what you’re asking! Can you drink the cup I drink or receive the baptism I receive?” 39 “We can,” they answered Jesus said, “You will drink the cup I drink and receive the baptism I receive, 40 but to sit at my right or left hand isn’t mine to give. It belongs to those for whom it has been prepared.” 41 Now when the other ten disciples heard about this, they became angry with James and John. 42 Jesus called them over and said, “You know that the ones who are considered the rulers by the Gentiles show off their authority over them and their high-ranking officials order them around. 43 But that’s not the way it will be with you. Whoever wants to be great among you will be your servant. 44 Whoever wants to be first among you will be the slave of all, 45 for the Human One didn’t come to be served but rather to serve and to give his life to liberate many people.”

Question

Are you willing to be a slave to all? What is the biggest thing you ever asked God for?

Prayers

Sharing the Cup

When supper had ended that night, Jesus took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this as often as you drink in remembrance of me.”

And so tonight, we take the cup of wine, and we drink together, “The blood of Christ shed for you.”

Communion Song – Come Let us Eat

Post-Wine Blessing

Now that you have tasted the goodness of God in bread and wine, let us be the body of Christ, blessed and broken for the whole world. Amen.

Closing Song – To Be Your Presence

Blessing and Sending

Go in peace, love, and care for one another in Christ’s name,
Go in the confidence of people who have found mercy through God,
keeping the commandments
and letting go of all that binds you to the ways of this world,
And may God come close to you and keep you safe;
may Christ Jesus reward your faithfulness a hundredfold;
and may the Holy Spirit be your help in time of need.
both now and forevermore.  Amen
